Traveling to Phobjikha

The road distance to Phobjikha from Thimphu is 134 km and from Wangduephodrang is 64 km (RSTA). A continuous drive along the mountains side will take about 2 to 2½ hours journey to reach Phobjikha from Thimphu. The road to the valley diverges from the Wangduephodrang-Trongsa highway before reaching Pelela Pass. After few minutes of diversion from the highway the road enters the valley through Lawala Pass at (3360m). The pass overlooking the valley is a realm of high-altitude dwarf bamboo, where you find yaks grazing during the winter. The road then descends down to Gangtay monastery overlooking the picturesque Phobjikha valley.
